Abstract
Uttar Pradesh is India's most populated state, which has resulted in inequities in
income possibilities, income distribution, health nutrition, a lack of quality education, rural
and urban poverty, and skilled labor. This study aims to identify the prevalence and severity
of poverty in this state. As result when compared to rural regions, metropolitan areas have a
higher monthly per capita income. However, the number of impoverished people (in lakhs) is
larger in rural regions than in urban areas between 1993-1994 and 2011-12. Poverty has been
declining overall, but the high prevalence of poverty in the Central and Eastern regions
remains a source of worry. According to the NSSO 66th round, rural poverty with HCR is
highest in the central area when compared to all other regions. Also result shows that, as
compared to other regions, urban HCR is high in the Western area, while overall HCR is high
in the Central region
