Abstract

Legal systems worldwide have a peculiar obsession with lie detectors. In addition to providing a brief history of the Polygraph lie detector test, this article tracks changes in Indian legal doctrine surrounding the legitimacy of similar tests. Using this as a starting point, the study then delves into the Indian judicial system’s perspective on the acceptability of lie detection tests. The study tries to establish a precise conclusion on how lie detector tests are perceived and whether there need to be any adjustments in how their admissibility is considered after providing a brief history of lie detector tests being used as evidence in courts.
