Main Article Content
Abstract
From the early period of Assamese literature, children’s and adolescent literature has been composed to varying extents. In the early age, forms of children’s literature were reflected in folk literary traditions such as lullabies and folktales. Through lullabies, the tender emotions of a child’s mind have been beautifully expressed. Similarly, folktales reflect the hopes, aspirations, and expressions of imaginative children. These folktales do not have any realistic foundation and are primarily based on supernatural elements. Nevertheless, they have continued to provide joy and entertainment to children. These lullabies and folktales have not only enriched the treasure of Assamese literature but have also contributed significantly to the development of children’s and adolescent literature.
