Resumen

Mastocytosis is characterized by an abnormal increased proliferation of mast cells and release of cell mediators. It is more common in children when compared to adults. Over 50% of children are diagnosed prior to two years of age, and is usually limited to the skin. Most of the children will spontaneously resolve by adolescence. In contrast, initial diagnosis of cutaneous mastocytosis in an adult increases the chance of developing systemic disease. The incidence of systemic disease is extremely rare. Neither cutaneous nor systemic forms of mastocytosis appear to be inherited.Urticaria pigmentosa is a benign, self-resolving condition that remits in adolescence. There is rarely any internal organ involvement in urticaria pigmentosa unlike adult form the disease.
