SDN Based Handover in 5G Networks

Abstract
With introduction of Ultra-Dense Networks in 5G with aim of satisfying the high speed data
rates there is consideration of handover that would occur as with high number of deployment
of gNBs . This is because there would be frequent handover would be taking in a area of about
1 kilometres or several 100 mts (in concept of femto cell). Additionally, due to the separation
of control and data signalling in 5G technology, the handover operation must be executed in
both tiers. In this article we propose a SDN based mobility model which encounter this
handover delays and failures. We first simulate the standalone 5G network and Hybrid network
in the Omnet++ and compare the result with base paper and see why the SDN proves to
important in handover mechanism in 5G network.
